Well, this is a first for me; I’m talking about a record before it is completed. While this compilation has 8 tracks at the time of this writing, VNR (Vacuum Noise Records) says they are going to add a new song daily through the end of 2020, when the final version and track order of this album will be done.
Based on how they’ve started, this should end up being a lot of fun. Things kick off with edad del pavo’s “Pouco Depois;” a delightful little instrumental track with acoustic guitar, keyboard embellishments, and a cheap drum machine rhythm. My only complaint is that it ended too soon. Next up is the band that alerted me to this compilation, my old friends Anatomy of the Heads. Their “Blow Upon My Death Whistle” sounds like exotica twisted beyond recognition into a wonderful soundscape. Then we take a third turn with Giji Hadoid and パンダに which may be “Panda” by Desiigner given the plunderphonics treatment (or, in this case, maybe the Neu! Treatment – see side 2 of “Neu! 2” if you’re not familiar). Even if I’m incorrect about the track’s genesis, it is definitively a sped up song that really pumps up the energy.
*TV pitch man voice* So, a great and growing compilation, but wait, there’s more! If you act right now…oh, sorry, I got carried away. But I do want to mention that as I was exploring other VNR offerings I saw I could subscribe to their label for US$5 per year. And that five dollars (did I mention, for the year?) gets you access to a ton of other music and helps support VNR. So dig some change out of your couch cushions and sign up now.
