“Light Years”

Another one for my noise heads. This release is apparently part of a career retrospective for 36. The first 8 tracks (and the last one) seem to be mostly studio or demo recordings, with a nice mix of guitar and percussion distorted in numerous ways; at times they are so twisted it’s difficult to determine which instrument is being manipulated. Sometimes it’s harsher noise, like on the track “I” with its heavy guitar distortion and really deformed vocals. Sometimes the wonderful drumming is more to the fore, like on the trio of tracks “H,” “T,” and “Y.”  And sometimes there’s a nice mix of both, especially evident on the longer live tracks “R” and “S.”

And if you like this one like I do, you’ll be happy to know this is apparently the first disc in a 3-disc set, so hopefully more on the way.
