Generally speaking, reggae artists have never shied away from taking a stand on social issues (see “Tosh, Peter” for one obvious example). For this release (and going forward), the righteous Svaha Sound label is taking a stand; the profits from this and all future releases will be donated to support a CHANGE Manifesto, which they detail as follows:
1. To use our voice to actively promote EQUALITY.
2. To educate people on the topic of EQUALITY.
3. To encourage our youth to take up the fight for EQUALITY.
I’ve written about Svaha Sound in the past (here and here). They have consistently put out high quality music and this single is no exception. “Love Addict” is a catchy tune, and Manwel T does his usual stellar job dubbing it up on the B-side. So here’s your chance to help a good cause AND get a nice 7-inch single for your collection.
You can order yours and you can read more about Svaha’s plan and where the money for this particular project will go at this link. Maybe if we all do our part and keep this momentum, instead of hearing Tosh sing “I need equal rights and justice” we’ll be able sign “We HAVE equal right and justice.”
