Franjek says he loves creating sounds and rhythms using metal, synths and samples. And that’s exactly what he offers on “Metal Works 1” – seven short tracks of noise he’s created with his toys. For what I would call a traditional EP length release, there’s quite an assortment of music. To give an idea of the variety, let’s take a quick spin through the tracks:
- “Pistachio Girls” consists of mostly echoing percussion and builds up a pretty good industrial groove.
- “Wosika Pig” sounds like a wind chime in a nightmare.
- “Brian Eno’s Wet Dream” features fat pulsing synth sounds and some simple repeating notes. It sounds to me like what “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by The Stooges might sound like after traveling through a black hole.
- “Instinct” has a blend of distorted individual note sounds and other noise elements that grow thicker as the track progresses.
- “The Big G” could be a demo for a Kraftwerk song.
- “Fetish” has a nice rhythm pattern mixed with dripping electronics.
- “Schleifen” also has a fast rhythm groove, but this time the electrons are bubbling.
If the goal was to leave the listener wanting more, all I can say is: mission accomplished. Let’s hope for more in the “Metal Works” series.
