Since (spoiler alert) I don’t know everything (anything?), I had to look up the title of this album as it’s not a word I knew. I found a couple variations of what “metanoia” means, but it all seems to revolve around the idea of repentance, or changing your mind/life as a result of some sort of spiritual conversion. If metanoia is, indeed, the idea behind this excellent music, it seems to me it may embody someone struggling through the process of this conversion, rather than from the perspective of someone who has already come through.
As a result, there are many different moods. While it’s mostly instrumental electronics, there are voice samples throughout (but they are never overdone). Even the song titles suggest we’re in store for a range of emotions, as they run the gamut from “Nihilism” to “Luminous.” So at the darker end of the spectrum, we get tracks like album opener “Eminence” which features some beats and voice samples, and has a bit of a gritty city feel. If you like the solo work of Richard H. Kirk (Cabaret Voltaire), this track will be right up your alley. Or take a listen to the incredible “DEAD – DRAMA” with its doomy percussion, washes, and voice samples.
On the other hand, you also get songs like “Things will be the same” with its ambient synth chords and indecipherable voices, ultimately building to a hopeful swell of music. Or the uplifting “ALIGN,” which will leave you floating. All in all, it’s a really strong collection of songs for wherever your personal journey is taking you.
WHYDARDII cites “realism” and “urban visuals” as influences on his music. You’ll get a real dose of that if you check out his YouTube channel, which features explorations of many of the songs on the album. Here’s the video for “ALIGN”:
