You can be forgiven if you aren’t familiar with World Domination Enterprises. They were active in the mid-late 1980’s and, while they made some noise, they didn’t exactly live up to their name. So before we go any further, please take a few minutes to listen to their amazing first single “Asbestos Lead Asbestos”:
For the uninitiated: That’s the best song you never heard before, right? Those snapping drums, that boiling bass, and that amazingly abrasive guitar. Gang of Four probably wishes they wrote that one.
Imagine my surprise when I recently learned that, over 30 years after WDE disbanded, they’ve released some new (well, actually old) material. Specifically, two “unfinished” songs (read: demos) from their archives. And while the sound quality leaves a little to be desired (did I mention: demos?), they still sound great. There’s also more good news on their Bandcamp page: “More archive singles to come.”
While I’d love to see these songs polished up in a studio, I’ll take what I can get. More releases like this and maybe that aspirational band name will be within reach.
