“Behind the Mirror”
“We could barely face our reflection and now we’ve gone through the looking glass.” Thus, the title: “Behind the Mirror.” This is an intense and exciting improvisation between a drummer and synth player.
There’s lots of wonderful experimental sounds (like the slow burn of minimalist drone and treated percussion on “Kendon,” or the slightly disconcerting noise of “47 52 34 21 N”). But there are also some (perhaps) surprising moments, like “Dronausorus” which sound like it could be part of a crime film soundtrack, or “Pagan Dance” with its swinging interplay between synth and drum often creating an almost industrial dance beat.
Whatever it was that Jérôme Gloaguen (drums) and Fabien Robbe (synth, keys) felt they had to work out turns out to be something we can all get behind.
