This album is a bit of an odds-and-sods career retrospective from F2RC. It includes music from the last century (remember the 1900’s?) up through current times. As you might guess with that time span, the range of songs and styles varies quite a bit, but it’s a fun way to experience F2RC through “the ages.”
Just to provide a few examples:
- There’s the excellent dance oriented electronic music of “Globalized,” with it’s fast beats and catchy synth melodies. It’s also the first appearance of voice samples that are prevalent throughout this album. [One of the comments from the artist: “Yes I am obsessed with samples.”]
- Things get downright funky on “Bastinado” with some vinyl scratching and slap bass.
- Moving more into rock-n-roll territory, “Bad Guy” has distorted guitar, doomy drum and disputatious samples.
- There’s some nice industrial noise with a groove on “Extraction.”
- And I worry a little bit about the visitors to the “Hostile Noise Hostel” where they’ll encounter some fairly harsh noises blended with belligerent guttural vocals.
There’s information for each track to give you a little history and perspective, along with some (unwarranted, I say) self-deprecating comments. Whether you’re already a fan (and why shouldn’t you be?) or are new to the music of F2RC, this is an excellent moment to open this time capsule.
