Here’s a short and sweet (well, can we really associate sweet with a toilet?) EP which, as the title has no doubt given away, is presented as an homage to Marcel Duchamp’s now legendary dada sculpture. And what better way to pay a tribute through sound than playing with toilet and urinal field recordings, as Christian Mayhem does here.
If you listen to these tracks blindly, you’d probably never guess the source material. The first track, for example, primarily evokes an industrial scene, while the second could be mistaken for manipulated nature/wind recordings. There are a few moments (especially on “Unisource Fountain IV”) where it sounds a bit like water washing down metal. Perhaps we shouldn’t think too deeply what that source material could be for that one.
It adds up to some interesting noise, well done and presented (presumably) with appropriate lighthearted intent. I suspect R. Mutt would approve.
